Storm damage

Weather arrives here before it reaches the far shore, and it arrives with the full width of the lake behind it.

Detail

Document before clearing

Photograph everything in place before anything is moved or covered. Clearing up destroys the record an insurer works from, and a claim is far easier to file completely than to reopen.

Check the structure, not just the roof

The visible damage after wind is usually roofing. The question worth asking is what the wind did to the frame while it was removing the roofing, because a large covered area transfers substantial force into the posts beneath it.

Repairable and safe are separate answers

Whether a dock can be repaired and whether it can be walked on today are two different assessments. Ask for both explicitly, because only one of them is about this week.

Questions

The roof lost panels but the dock looks fine. Worth looking at?

Yes. Roof damage means the structure absorbed significant wind load, and the consequences of that load are frequently in connections rather than anywhere visible.

Related scope

Dock repair

Repair work on the side of the lake that takes the weather rather than shelters from it.

Boat lift repair

Exposed water shortens cable life. That is the single most useful thing to know about lifts on this side.

Where we do this around Denver

Cowans Ford

Below-waterline condition, since deep water never reveals it the way a drawdown does elsewhere.

Little Egypt

Waterline rot, which calm water does nothing to prevent.

Westport

Mature flotation and original lift cable, both further along than they look.
