Little Egypt

Quieter water further from the busiest stretches, and docks that show the benefit.

Less traffic means fewer of the small repeated movements that loosen hardware elsewhere. Structures on this part of the shoreline generally hold their fasteners and float attachments longer than the more exposed communities to the south.

What does not change is rot at the waterline, which is driven by wet and dry cycling rather than by wave action. Calm water offers no protection at all against the most common way a piling ends its life.

Worth watching here

Waterline rot, which calm water does nothing to prevent.

What we get called for here

Seawalls

The land side of the problem, and the one most likely to be treated as somebody else's job.

Inspections

A general home inspection stops at the shoreline. The dock is frequently the most expensive thing nobody looked at.

Storm damage

Weather arrives here before it reaches the far shore, and it arrives with the full width of the lake behind it.

Nearby

Westport

Long-established waterfront, which means mature dock stock arriving at renewal together.

Sailview

Open outlook, which is pleasant to sit on and hard on fasteners.
